From Research to Learning – Shaping the LiLI Modules

How can language learning help migrant women navigate everyday challenges, make informed decisions and become more confident in their new environment?

This question is at the heart of the LiLI – Life and Language Skills for Migrant Women project. Following the needs analysis and focus groups conducted in the partner countries, the project has moved towards developing practical learning materials that connect language acquisition with essential life skills.

The learning modules focus on three key competences: problem solving, critical thinking and decision making. These skills are particularly relevant when navigating unfamiliar situations, whether dealing with administrative procedures, accessing services, seeking employment or managing everyday responsibilities.

Rather than teaching language in isolation, LiLI follows the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. This means that participants develop language skills while engaging with meaningful content and practical situations. Learning a new expression becomes part of understanding a problem, exploring possible solutions or making a decision.

The modules are being developed for A2 and B1 language levels, allowing learners to build on their existing knowledge while gradually developing greater confidence and independence. Practical scenarios and activities encourage learners to reflect, communicate and apply what they have learned.

An important consideration is that migrant women bring different experiences, educational backgrounds and needs. The materials therefore aim to offer accessible and culturally respectful learning opportunities that can be adapted to different national contexts.

From learning materials to digital learning

The modules will eventually become part of the LiLI E-learning Platform, where women will be able to access learning activities flexibly and at their own pace.

By combining language learning with real-life challenges, LiLI aims to make learning more meaningful – and support women in putting their knowledge into practice.
