From Research Findings to a Skills Assessment Matrix

What happens after identifying the skills workers need for the digital transition?

Following the completion of the E-SHIFT needs analysis, the project is taking the next step: translating the research findings into a practical Skills Assessment Matrix.

The research carried out across the partner countries provided valuable insights into the digital and entrepreneurial competences that are becoming increasingly important for workers in manufacturing and assembly. It also highlighted areas where further support is needed – from digital problem-solving, data literacy and cybersecurity awareness to adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurial thinking.

The Skills Assessment Matrix will bring these findings together in a structured way. Its purpose is to help identify existing competences as well as potential skills gaps and learning needs. Rather than assuming that workers need to start from scratch, the approach recognises the knowledge and experience they already bring with them.

The Matrix will also provide an important link between the research and the learning activities that E-SHIFT will develop in the next phase. Identified competence needs will inform the design of the project’s microlearning modules and, ultimately, support the development of learning pathways that respond to individual needs.

The E-SHIFT partners are currently working on the structure and content of the Skills Assessment Matrix. Once developed and validated, it will become one of the key tools for turning the project’s research findings into practical support for workers navigating digital change.

From understanding skills needs to supporting individual learning – E-SHIFT is moving from research towards practical solutions.
