PROSPER – Home-office tips

Home-office is hardly a new experience to employees nowadays, but do you know how to do it correctly? Here are a few advice on how to improve your experience.

The screen should best be positioned in a way so that your gaze is perpendicular to it. A viewing distance of 50 to 70 centimetres is recommended. You should look down at the screen from above in a relaxed manner, as if you were reading a book – the distance between the lower edge of the screen and the table surface should be as small as possible. As for the lighting, the best option is if you can ensure daylight coming from the side. Backlighting, on the other hand, is stressful.

Because height- adjustable desks are hardly available under home-office, the solution is to adapt. Stand up and walk around at regular intervals. When sitting, relax your shoulders. The upper arms should remain loose and form a right angle with the forearms. The same applies for the upper and lower legs. Place your forearms horizontally on the table and your feet on the floor, if necessary with a footrest.

Sitting on the edge of the chair puts a huge strain on the back – use the full seat area. Change your posture often, it will relieve the strain. If you can afford an ergonomic chair, get one – it will increase your comfort considerably. The backrest should support you in all sitting positions, and armrests should be at table level.

The workplace needs to be simple but homely. It is quite important to create an area that you consciously enter and leave – at best, a separate room, is need be with room dividers. Make sure there is fresh air and daylight. A carpets not only makes you feel more cosy, but also absorbs noise.

Only work items should allowed in your workstation. A TV is certainly not recommended. Music is a matter of choice, while podcasts can be distracting. strictly adhering to working hours, setting goals and taking breaks helps to not be taken away with house chores. Working out improves your mood and helps you focus.
