As part of the GEA project, we facilitated a constructive discussion with local residents on 10 September 2025 to explore how general decrees on water abstraction are perceived in practice. The session provided space for residents to share experiences from different parts of the district and reflect on how temporary restrictions shape everyday water use.
Participants recognised the importance of protecting water ecosystems during low-flow periods and appreciated the clarity provided by simple district-wide rules. At the same time, several residents raised concerns regarding fairness, communication and exemptions, noting that people often struggle to understand when measures apply and what they mean for gardening or hobby activities.
Suggestions focused on improving public communication, including clearer summaries of current rules, better explanations of trigger thresholds and seasonal guidance on water-saving practices. Participants also highlighted the need for better coordination between neighbouring districts to avoid conflicting regulations.
