Why do you care about preserving the environment?

Motivation plays a key role in educating children about the environment. Motivating is being able to make someone eager to do something. Motivation is closely connected to values – to the question: why am I doing this? You need to know yourself before you can motivate others.

Take a moment to consider – why do you think preserving the environment is important for you? Are you concerned about the dangers of climate change, the deteriorating surroundings in your own community, preserving some specific plants or animals, or something else?

Do you think you can have an impact on your surroundings? What can you realistically change if you concentrate on it? Is it a place – a street, a garden, an organisation – like your workplace, or a group of people? How would you feel if you saw that impact – the place, organisation, people changed?

Would you like to foster the growth of people who are able to take care of the environment? Do you think this is an important part of your role as an educator? What would you like to inspire in the children?
