Your Skills, Your Voice!”

Migration opens new opportunities, but it also brings challenges. Many migrant women face barriers that go beyond language. Understanding official documents, communicating with healthcare providers, applying for jobs, navigating administrative systems, building social networks, and acting independently in everyday situations often require a combination of language skills, practical knowledge, confidence, and life skills.

The Erasmus+ project LiLI – Life and Language Skills + Intersectionality for Migrant Women Integration aims to support migrant women in overcoming these barriers and strengthening their autonomy, participation, and inclusion in European societies.

Running from November 2025 to October 2027, LiLI brings together organisations from Italy, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands to develop innovative learning opportunities that combine language learning with the development of essential life skills. At the same time, the project supports professionals working with migrant women by promoting intersectional approaches that help create more inclusive educational and social support systems.

Why LiLI?

Many migrant women participate in language courses and acquire valuable language competences. However, language learning alone does not always translate into confidence and independence in everyday life.

Recent needs analyses conducted within the project indicate that migrant women often encounter difficulties in situations such as:

  • Introducing themselves and applying for jobs
  • Understanding and completing official documents
  • Communicating with doctors and healthcare professionals
  • Managing administrative procedures
  • Building social connections and participating actively in society

In many cases, the challenge is not only understanding the language, but also knowing how to act, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively in unfamiliar situations.

LiLI addresses these challenges through an integrated approach that combines language learning, life skills development, and personal empowerment.

Project Objectives

LiLI pursues three main objectives:

  • To provide migrant women with accessible, flexible and needs-based learning opportunities that support both language acquisition and everyday autonomy.
  • To promote active participation, social inclusion and employability through the development of essential life skills.
  • To raise awareness among educators, trainers, social workers and policymakers about intersectionality and its importance for supporting vulnerable groups in a fair and inclusive way.

What Will LiLI Develop?

Language & Life Skills Learning Catalogue

The project will develop a multilingual catalogue of learning modules that combine language learning with practical life skills using the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach.

The learning content will be organised as short and accessible microlearning units, allowing learners to engage with the material at their own pace. The modules will address real-life situations that migrant women encounter in their daily lives and support both personal and professional development.

The catalogue will be available in English, Italian, German, Greek and Dutch.

Intersectionality Info-Training Toolkit

LiLI will develop a practical toolkit for educators, trainers, social workers, volunteers and policymakers.

The toolkit will provide:

  • Guidelines and methodological recommendations
  • Practical tools and resources
  • Good practice examples
  • Case studies and reflection activities

The aim is to strengthen professionals’ understanding of how different aspects of identity and social position intersect and influence the experiences of migrant women.

E-learning Platform

All project resources will be integrated into an inclusive and accessible e-learning platform.

The platform will be:

  • Multilingual
  • Mobile-friendly
  • Easy to use for learners with limited digital skills
  • Accessible through smartphones and other devices

It will offer interactive learning pathways, personalised learning opportunities and resources for both migrant women and professionals. Importantly, the platform will remain available free of charge after the end of the project, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project results.

Who Benefits?

LiLI addresses the needs of:

  • Women with a migrant background
  • Adult educators and trainers
  • Social workers and integration professionals
  • Volunteers working with migrant communities
  • Policymakers and decision-makers
  • Organisations supporting inclusion and integration

Expected Impact

By combining language learning with life skills development and intersectional awareness, LiLI seeks to contribute to:

  • Increased autonomy and self-confidence among migrant women
  • Improved access to education, employment and services
  • Stronger participation in community life
  • Better-informed and more inclusive support services
  • Greater awareness of the diverse experiences and needs of migrant women

Ultimately, LiLI aims to empower migrant women not only to learn a language, but also to participate actively in society, make informed decisions and shape their own future.
