E-SHIFT – Supporting Workers in the Digital Transition
E-SHIFT (Transition and Skill Development for E-Commerce and Digital Entrepreneurship) is a European Erasmus+ project that supports manufacturing workers in adapting to the rapidly changing world of work. As digitalisation, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and e-commerce continue to transform industries, many traditional job profiles are evolving and new competences are becoming increasingly important.
The project aims to help workers successfully navigate these changes by developing innovative training opportunities that strengthen digital, entrepreneurial, and future-oriented skills. Through research, competence assessment, and personalised learning pathways, E-SHIFT will support workers in identifying new career opportunities and building the competences needed in the digital economy.
Why E-SHIFT?
Across Europe, manufacturing companies are introducing digital technologies, automation systems, and AI-driven processes. While these developments create new opportunities, they also require workers to continuously update their skills.
E-SHIFT addresses this challenge by exploring how workers can be supported during professional transitions and by developing practical learning solutions tailored to their needs.
Project Objectives
E-SHIFT seeks to:
- strengthen digital and entrepreneurial competences among workers in manufacturing and assembly-line occupations;
- support workers whose jobs are affected by digitalisation, automation, and AI;
- develop flexible and personalised micro-learning opportunities that fit around work and daily life;
- provide practical, workplace-oriented training experiences;
- promote dialogue and cooperation between industry, education providers, policymakers, and social partners.
How We Work
The project combines research, innovation, and training through five interconnected work packages:
WP1 – Project Management and Coordination
Ensuring effective cooperation, quality assurance, monitoring, and project implementation.
WP2 – Skills and Market Analysis
Investigating digital business models, labour market trends, workforce needs, and future skill requirements through research, stakeholder consultations, and surveys.
WP3 – Smart Learning Pathways
Developing an adaptive micro-learning programme and digital learning environment tailored to workers’ individual needs and career goals.
WP4 – Training and Capacity Building
Designing and delivering practical learning opportunities that help workers acquire new digital and entrepreneurial competences.
WP5 – Dissemination and Sustainability
Sharing project results, engaging stakeholders, organising multiplier events, and developing guidelines for companies and training providers.
Expected Results
Through its activities, E-SHIFT will deliver:

- Adaptive Microlearning Programme: A flexible learning programme that supports personalised learning journeys and provides recognised credentials.
- Capacity Building for Educators: Training opportunities for vocational trainers, teachers, and adult educators working in the field of digital entrepreneurship and workforce development.
- Practical Training Opportunities: Hands-on learning experiences and certification pathways for workers seeking to strengthen their digital skills and career prospects.
- Outreach and Impact Framework: Tools and strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability and impact of project results.
Who Benefits?
E-SHIFT is designed for:
- workers undergoing professional transitions;
- employees in manufacturing and assembly-line occupations;
- jobseekers seeking new opportunities in the digital economy;

Partnership
The E-SHIFT consortium brings together organisations from different European countries with expertise in vocational education and training, workforce development, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and labour market innovation.
Impact
E-SHIFT contributes to a more resilient and future-ready workforce by helping workers develop the competences needed in a rapidly changing labour market. By supporting digital and entrepreneurial skill development, the project promotes sustainable career pathways, strengthens employability, and helps bridge the gap between traditional manufacturing and the digital economy.
