During our Understanding EU Citizen dialogues, participants shared their challenges and offered real solutions. These include:
- Use plain language and visual aids
- Create short videos and mobile-friendly summaries
- Set up a multilingual EU law portal with search tools and explainers
- Clarify who decides what in the EU system.
Citizens want to be part of the process, not passive recipients of complicated texts. They have asked for more transparency, better communication and opportunities to engage before laws are made.
These ideas are now being used to develop Knowledge Bits, a Digital Lexicon and a Policy Paper for EU decision-makers.
After all, democracy works best when people understand how it functions.
