Inspired by our study visit to Artscape in Vilnius, we introduced an artistic activity into our weekly UNITE Language Café.
German and Ukrainian participants worked together to create a German-Ukrainian Friendship Calendar using the fascinating cyanotype printing technique.
Each month became an opportunity to exchange stories about traditions, celebrations, childhood memories, and personal experiences from both countries. While participants experimented creatively with colours and shapes, conversations naturally developed about cultural similarities and differences.
The activity showed once again that art speaks a universal language. It encourages dialogue, reduces language barriers, and creates meaningful connections between people who might otherwise never have met.
For us, this was much more than an art workshop—it was another step towards building an inclusive community.
