I-CARE – Tips for tricky siutations in an intercultural context

The I-Care consortium developed a set of actions sheets aimed to provide practical tips to overcome tricky situations in the social and healthcare situation in intercultural settings. Based on the many interviews carried out during the research phase the partnership identified twelve intercultural situations that can lead to misunderstandings or problems and affect interactions between staff and their clients or patients. Thematically, these include: language barriers, dealing with conflicts, the role of the family, stereotypes, dealing with pain and illness, conflicting values, etc.

The action sheets briefly describe the issue, illustrated by a real-life example, and give options that staff can take to deal with the situation. The action sheets are available in all partner languages incl. English and German. Find an example here. All actions sheets will be tested in the piloting phase in autumn 2021.
